Easter 2023: What’s happening in our local area?

March 19, 2023

With Easter just around the corner, we thought we’d take a quick look at upcoming events and celebrations around Southend and this part of Essex.

Easter egg hunt

What would Easter be without an Easter egg hunt? The one to be held in Belfairs Woods – on the western fringes of Southend – is a dinosaur-themed hunt with a difference!

If you have children over the age of three, just take them down to the woods here on the 13th of April – the Thursday after Good Friday – for Belfairs Dino Egg Hunt.

An “inflated” sense of purpose

Prepare yourselves for a relaxing break by allowing the kids to let off steam and all that excess energy at the Inflatable Family Fun Day in Southend’s Chalkwell Park on Easter Monday the 10th of April.

Kids from the ages of 4-11 (with a special toddler-only arena for those aged one to three). They’ll run riot around everything inflatable – from “ginormous” slides to 70-foot assault courses, bouncy castles galore, a novelty giant football dart board, games, and a crowd-drawing duel between Rock and Roll Gladiators!

Easter Farm Babies

There are quieter and more relaxing events too. Just stroll along to the Nursery and Garden Centre of Scott’s of Southend where you’ll find the delightfully calming experience of cuddly farmyard babies – chicks, ducklings, lambs, baby rabbits, ponies, and more.

The Easter Farm Babies are awaiting your cuddles over the Easter weekend from the 6th to the 8th of April inclusive.

While at the garden centre, if you invest in some plants, tools or garden furniture etc., don’t forget to review your home insurance and the cover you have for the contents of your garden or stored in your shed/garage.

This type of contents cover typically safeguards between £2,500 and £5,000 of contents – though these insured sums naturally vary from one insurer to another.

Similarly, some insurers might define items kept in your shed or garage still to be out in the open (unless your garage is attached to your house).

Easter music

The sweet sounds of music will be swelling from the bandstand in Southend’s Priory Park in the afternoon of Easter Sunday and Monday – popular music to doze by, hopefully under some warming Easter sunshine.

If you prefer your music more challenging or raucous, your opportunity comes earlier still – on the 25th of March – with live performances of sensuous sax and original rap at The Ironworks in Southend.

Easter Food & Gift Fayre

Stock up on all your supplies and treats for the Easter weekend by visiting the Easter Food and Gift Fayre on the 1st of April.

It’s held in the King’s Road United Reform Church where there will be more than 30 stalls, craft sessions, story-telling for younger visitors, and the ever-popular tombola.

Blossom Day

St Laurence Orchard Eastwood – on the northern fringes of Southend – is hosting a special Easter Blossom Day on the 14th of April.

The event is hosted by the local mental health charity Trust Links.

Remember the badgers

Finally, recognition goes out to the good work of the Essex Badger Protection Group which will also be hosting an Easter Family Fun Day on the 1st of April.

The Group’s Easter bonanza includes stalls and fun activities for all the family including wildlife talks, refreshments, and a tombola held at the Hockley Community Centre (from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m.).
