Has Your Driving Licence Expired?

Tuesday, September 7th, 2010

Thousands of motorists are at risk of being fined up to £1000 because they are unwittingly driving without a valid licence. They risk prosecution after failing to notice that their photocard licence expires after 10 years and must be renewed.  This has come to light a decade after the 1st batch of photocard licences was issued in July 1998.

How will this affect your motor insurance cover?  This very question was asked by the Fleet Manager of one of our largest fleets of over 400 vehicles.

Motor Insurance Policies cover drivers who hold a valid licence. If the photocard licence has expired, then will insurers consider those drivers unlicensed, even though they are licensed to drive until the age of 70?

I am currently awaiting an answer from my Client’s insurers and will update this article asap.  Meanwhile, your views will be welcome.
